Every day at Rockwood Prep we see the unique and individual strengths and challenges of children with learning disabilities.
Children with learning disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (1), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Dyslexia, need specialized support and interventions to help them succeed academically and socially.
One approach that we utilize at our school is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)(2)Therapy.
ABA Therapy is a well-established and evidence-based approach to behavior modification that focuses on the principles of learning theory. It is often used to help individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder develop communication and social skills. Studies have also found that ABA Therapy can also be effective for children with other learning disabilities, such as ADHD and Dyslexia.
The goal of ABA Therapy is to teach new skills and promote positive behavior by breaking down complex behaviors into smaller, more manageable parts. This allows children to learn new skills gradually and effectively.
ABA THERAPY FOCUSES ON TEACHING POSITIVE BEHAVIORS
The therapist collects data on the behaviors targeted in therapy and uses the data to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions and make changes if needed.
ABA Therapy utilizes a variety of techniques, including:
- positive reinforcement
- prompting and shaping
- behavior contracts
- task analysis
- picture exchange communications
- video modeling
Each strategy is designed to help children develop new skills and positive behaviors. The therapy is tailored to each individual child’s needs and is best delivered in a one-on-one setting. This individualized approach allows for one-on-one attention and instruction. The therapy should be added into a child’s daily routine, including their school day, to help them practice new skills and behaviors in different settings.
At our school, we are committed to ABA Therapy because it is a valuable tool in helping children with learning disabilities overcome obstacles, academically and socially. We’ve seen it happen!
Our certified and experienced professionals provide individualized instruction and support to each student, utilizing evidence-based interventions and techniques to achieve positive outcomes.
If you are concerned about your child’s academic and social development, ABA Therapy may be the right approach to behavior modification that can be effective for helping your children – especially if they have been diagnosed with learning disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Dyslexia.
Be assured that at Rockwood Prep, we are always committed to providing the highest quality support and interventions to help every child reach their full potential. We put the child first!
